Halo Chatroom
———————————————————————
1. No linking to pornography or offensive material
2. Don’t ask or beg for voice or ops, you won’t get them and you’ll just bother the ops
3. Don’t harass or abuse other chatroom users
4. Evading bans, don’t try it, I’ll know it and you’ll be punished
5. Advertising: This is going to be extremely strict, if you’re not sponsoring us then we’re not going to let you advertise. Period.
6. Don’t pick fights with the Ops, if you think what their opinion is wrong, logically explain why do not attack or insult them, this is the same for everyone else but in the channel but for obvious reasons, don’t pick fights with the ops
7. Please don’t spam, you don’t like it when those kids keep repeating themselves in class just to be heard, and we don’t want you repeating things just to try to get a point across
8. Don’t flood. If it’s a large string of information, warn beforehand, or simply just link the information.
9. Nickname impersonation, if you knowingly impersonate someones nickname in order to mock them or simply annoy them this will be brought to my attention, and there will be consequences
10. Spreading hate, this is essentially the only rule that will be strictly enforced. If you are caught making racial slurs, or this is brought to any of the ops attention, your time is over. You can contest it, but unless it’s a non sequitor, or the wrong window, then there isn’t anything that we’ll do.
11. Automatic scripts, while this will almost surely won’t be a problem, please don’t do it. It’s annoying.
12. Don’t be annoying. I realize this is the internet and that you’re anonymous, but I don’t stand outside your house with a mask and scream obscenities, please don’t do it in my channel.
13. Try to avoid swearing a great deal. Cursing is all fine and good but when you’re using expletives to enhance your expletives something is wrong.
Some Basic Commands
A. /nick This changes your nickname, so if you type “/nick Francois” your nick will be changed to “Francois.”
B. /me This is the action command, when you type “/me does something” what is displayed is “Zordon does something.”
C. /msg This will send someone a private message. The syntax is “/msg nick your message here.” For instance, “/msg |HGN|KiM You wear a dress?” will not only send Kitty Man a message but question his manhood at the same time.
D. /j or /join This will join a channel. Most clients permit the abbreviation “/j” in fact I haven’t seen one which doesn’t. So if you want to join a channel, you do “/j #channel” (the # sign must be there in many clients, though mirc will let you get away without it).
F. /list This lists all of the public channels on a server. Doing it on IBO isn’t such a bad idea but on larger servers like efnet or quakenet it’s going to take a huge amount of time to process.
G. /part This leaves a channel without leaving the server. It can be used with or without a parting message. For example, if you want to leave #halogamersnet, you may just type “/part” and you’ll leave it, or if you type “/part #halogamersnet I’m leaving now!” then in #halogamersnet people will see that you left and that message of “I’m leaving now!”
H. /quit /Quit can be used just like /part, but it disconnects you from the server. If you type “/quit” then you’ll simply disconnect, if you type “/quit I didn’t like you guys anyways” then the fact that you quit will be displayed along with your message of “i didn’t like you guys anyways.”
It’s possible to set up your own IRC client.
HGN recommends mIRC. To set up mIRC, go here.
